PS3 Hacker Ban: Undoable with Latest Jailbreak

Two days ago we reported news that Sony were banning many Playstation users that have been modifying their consoles for personal gain, new information has now been announced suggesting that there is now a jailbreak which can counter Sony’s actions.

Sony initially sent out a warning to those with pirated software on their device saying that they will face consequences, the threats were backed up and soon Sony started banning various PSN ID’s from using PSN, which obviously resulted in a lot of gamers feeling hard done-by.

According to VG247 a new hack has been developed which allows hackers that have been banned to un-ban themselves, not only this but hackers can also un-ban other PS3 accounts providing that they have the correct PSN ID.

The fight to keep hackers off of the Playstation Network is currently being lost by Sony, which is a shame for the company and PS3 gamers, obviously developers and publishers suffer because of piracy, however gamers are even more frustrated as they often come up against cheaters online, therefore the news that people can un-ban themselves isn’t great for everyone.

Have you unbanned your PS3 account? Let us know in the comments section below.

The IPhone is not the same as a PS3, a phone doesn't interact with my phone unless i allow it to, I dont have a choice when it comes to PSN, i cant filter you out, because of this jail break, you can now hack me and i cant do shit, this is not about your hardware, you own 0, thats right, 0% of the software, you dont have a right to mod the software because of just how interactive the PS3 is

Jailbreaking and pirating are two different things. Sony is intentionally trying to merge them so that jailbreakers can be treated as a pirate criminal. Adding features to a console or saving your own games is not copyright infringement, it is our right to do whatever we want with the console we bought and own. It did not hold up in court with Apple and won't with Sony. Sony is just pissed that people who are far more innovative than their corporate drones might actually improve the consoles. I mean look at most of the games in the playstation store. A… Read more »

otherOS support would still be available if it wasnt for jailbreakers

Get the facts straight, the PS3 has been hacked 'cause Sony has been taking away features from the PS3 that they themselves have advertised (OtherOS support, PS2 support, SACD playback to name a few). The main purpose of the ps3 hack is to
1.) get these features back,
2.) allow unsigned/signed packages to be run,
3.) backup of games that you own a disc of (from 2) .

I'm sure Sony's lawyers are closing in on the jailbreak dudes real identity. They'll have a lot more to deal with than hacking the PS3 further.
