PS3 and Xbox 360 price drop for Feb 2014

It was apparent that the moment Microsoft and Sony released their new consoles that sales of the Xbox 360 and PS3 would wane a little. Gamers who make the choice to move to the new Xbox One and PS4 could force both companies to do something drastic, which could work in our favor.

In a recent interview with Michael Pachter, he was reported as saying that some publishers could force Microsoft and Sony into cutting the price of the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3; otherwise they could pull their support for the previous generation consoles.

If we are to believe what Pachter is saying, although he does have a checkered track record, then we could see a PS3 and Xbox 360 price drop by as early as Feb 2014.

He said that if the manufacturers do not respond fast enough, then this could have a knock-on effect with sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 over the 2014 Christmas period.

Okay, we know that’s still 11 months away, but if no action is taken to reduce the price of these consoles, then publishers could pull the plug on development of games due for release near the busy holiday season, and only release them on the PS4 and Xbox One instead.

Do you think Pachter is right, or is this just another of his unreliable analyses?
