Did you buy a PS Vita at launch or are you waiting for the inevitable price cut that will happen in 2013? Sony has already confirmed that a reduction in price will happen, but obviously nobody knows how much will be discounted off the original price and when such a move will happen. As we wait for the main hardware to become cheaper, we have some good news for those of you who are looking to pick up an official PS Vita memory card. Sony has decided to reduce the price of these on their official website, which is great since they were overpriced anyway at launch in our opinion.
The PS Vita memory cards are still a debatable subject for many consumers, largely due to Sony’s rather over the top security measures which requires users to switch memory cards if they want to sign in on a different PSN account on the Vita. Unlike the PS3, the Vita only supports the use of one Vita memory card per account, meaning that it is a massive hassle to have to format the card every time a user wants to explore new content on a different region store – an issue which wouldn’t be a big problem if Sony updated region stores with the same content at the same time.
With that said though, it hasn’t stopped many PS Vita owners from picking up a second memory card, and if you haven’t already done so – now may be the perfect time. If you head to the Sony Store online, you’ll see that the company are now quietly offering a promotion on all storage sizes. You’ll be able to pick up the 4GB memory card for $14.99 instead of $19.99, or the 8GB for $22.49 instead of $29.99.
Unfortunately, the 16GB and 32GB sizes are out of stock at the time of writing, so it looks like a lot of you have wasted no time in getting hold of an extra card. With Sony discounting Vita memory cards themselves, we have a feeling that it won’t be long until we see the price cuts across many other retailers as well. It appears to be perfect timing with a Vita hardware price cut around the corner, so what price would you be willing to pay for the Vita after discount?
