Most gamers are under the impression that PS Plus offers a much better service compared to Games with Gold, at this present stage. Microsoft are naturally keen to change this perception among the gaming community and have been speaking about improvements that are planned throughout 2014.
Just days ago, PS4 gamers were given Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition as their free game for the March 2014 PS Plus update. Games with Gold is yet to launch on Xbox One, but Xbox 360 gamers were instead given Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution, as well as Dungeon Defenders – PS3 gamers received Tomb Raider as their free main game.
Some Xbox 360 fans are calling on Microsoft to improve the quality of Games with Gold after seeing what Sony offers with PS Plus each month and it looks like Microsoft are planning to deliver soon.
Microsoft’s Phil Spencer was at SXSW over the weekend and dropped some interesting comments on this topic which we’re happy to share with you below:
“I have been sitting down, monthly now, with that team — some of the earlier months were already programmed — and playing a more active role in picking franchises that show up in Games with Gold, and I think you’ll see at least something that feels, at least, more true to what I think Games with Gold should look like with the constraints that are there.”
That basically tells Xbox gamers that Games with Gold is set to offer some better content over the coming months with Spencer now having a more active role in the selection.

He also took the time to remind everyone that the games offered with Games with Gold are games that users can keep forever, even when their subscription ends. This is different to PS Plus of course, as all of your games are still stored on the cloud and access will expire as soon as your subscription expires.
What we want to see next though is an Xbox One Games with Gold release date – that’s the first step if Microsoft want to compete with PS Plus.
Are you a happy PS Plus / Games with Gold subscriber at the moment? If so, let us know your thoughts on how both services are going at the moment and your expectations for 2014 looking ahead.
