We already knew that 4K TV sales were set to soar in the build-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but only those countries that will broadcast coverage in 4K. However, there are now reports that some countries have seen an increase in projector sales in preparation for the World Cup.
An interesting article has taken a closer look at projector sales in Kathmandu, and has found that this is due to football fever, which we know hits fans of the sport every four years. Projectors have come a long way over the years because they no longer offer a bland washed out feel they once did several years ago.
People love to get together to watch sporting events on a large screen, and you don’t get much bigger than a projector, and the likes of Epson, Vivitek and Dell are all cashing in on this trend.
I’m not a huge fan of football, but watching something like the World Cup on a projector does give it that extra appeal that has found be sitting down from time to time to watch a match. However, I do find it a bit painful watching England play as they never seem to come together as a team, but we could be pleasantly surprised.
Even though the report stated a rise in projector sales in Kathmandu, we know for certain that this is a pattern being shared in other countries as well because overall projector sales for Q1 in 2014 have exceeded 2 million units, and this number is expected to rise during the next quarter, which will no doubt have something to do with the World Cup.
