Our memories playing Age of Empires will stay with us forever and we’re sure a number of our readers would have some amazing memories of playing this popular strategy game. You might have already heard about an Age of Empires app for Apple’s iPad and iPhone, but today we wanted to touch on the pricing expectations for this mobile game.
Age of Empires pricing structure for iPad and iPhone — on the PC we purchased Age of Empires for one price, then played for free until some DLC arrived that cost one fee once again.
This one fee pricing structure seems a thing of the past, especially when it comes to online and mobile games that in many cases offer the game for free at first. One example of this is Forge of Empires, which is a free online strategy game that is designed around making money from in-game purchases by the way of diamonds.
If you want to learn more about Forge of Empires then you should see our review. In that article we deliver some insight into this free online game and how things can cost after frustration sets in. Everywhere you go in the game promotes diamonds and those of course cost real world money, so if you run into trouble with a lack of resources you can buy your way out of it.
We really hope the Age of Empires app offers a higher price than in-app purchases, as we would be happy to pay $8 or so for the game on our iPad or iPhone. This beats in-app purchases that can really add up, and we know people that have spent over $400 on Forge of Empires with buying diamonds.
The same can be said for apps, and you don’t need to look far to read stories about children and adults spending money in apps that totals hundreds of dollars. So from a user point of view this isn’t good in our opinion, but from a business point of view it seems like the best idea to make money with Age of Empires on iOS.
How would you like to see Age of Empires for iPhone and iPad priced? At the time of writing there’s no release date set for the new iOS game, so keep connected to PR and we’ll update you when it launches and bring the first gameplay.
