Pottery Barn Cribs Recall: Drop-Side Cribs to be banned

We reported last month about the recall of baby cribs from seven different companies, and today we can tell you about another recall this time concerning cribs from popular retailer Pottery Barn Kids. The recall announced by The Consumer Product Safety Commission involves all cribs from the company regardless of model number.

Jennifer C. Kerr of the Associated Press is reporting that the recall includes a total of 82,000 cribs, and the company is offering consumers free kits to immobilize the drop-side rail of the cribs. These sort of cribs have been blamed for the deaths and injury of infants since 2000, and has seen over nine million cribs being recalled in the last five years.

This latest recall came as the commission voted to ban the manufacture, sale and resale of these types of crib, and ban the use at childcare facilities, hotels and motels. A new standard of crib with four fixed sides and more durable materials was also agreed. This is to prevent the “V” like gap that occurs when the rail comes away from the crib and the baby might get caught which can lead to strangulation and other injuries.
