While the smartphone market is set to enter its busy period in the next few months, because of the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3, Google X Phone and next iPhone, this is also true of the tablet market. We already know that the iPad 5 and mini 2 will be released later this year, but there is speculation that Motorola will launch a Google X Tablet to coincide with their handset.
Over the past couple or so years when Apple brought out a new tablet this would have been compared to a Samsung or other Android alternative, such as the Xoom. However, the latter did not prove too popular and so meant that a sequel was out of the question, but that doesn’t mean Motorola has given up.
With the right focus and attention to the finer details the Google X tablet could be a bit of a dark horse for Apple and their iPad, just as much as the Google X Phone is for Samsung and their Galaxy range of smartphones.
Apple will certainly need to up their game in the tablet market as well now, so we hope to see a huge spec bump with the iPad 5 when compared to the two previous versions. We can almost guarantee that a faster processor and graphics will be used, along with having a thinner design and form factor similar to the iPad mini, although we do hope that this does not come at the expense of battery life.
There have also been rumors of a stylus with the iPad 5, but this is something that is highly unlikely. Overall we do not expect massive changes to Apple’s next tablet, and if this is the case than rival devices will close the gap even further.
As for the Google X Tablet, we presume that the design would be sleek while offering up a decent amount of performance at the same time, which could come from Nvidia’s quad-core Cortex A-15 chip. If Motorola were to go with this processor then we could expect their tablet to be around 50 percent faster than the Nexus 10, well that’s according to this report.
The 2560 x 1600 Super PLS is the current pixel quality of the Nexus 10 so the Google X tablet would be of an equivalent or even outdo it. Where this new device needs to excel the most is with apps because they will need to be optimized for tablet use. Apple has this nailed with the iPad, so Google and Motorola need to do the same.
How will the Google X tablet compare next to the iPad 5?
