We have recently heard that Portland Shellfish Company is voluntarily recalling a wide-range of their cooked, ready to eat lobster claw and knuckle meat, this is because of contamination concerns, however at the time of this post no related illnesses had been reported.
Apparently a range of products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, this organism has the potential to be fatal to young children, the elderly and people with poor immune systems.
If you do not fall into this bracket you may just suffer diarrhea, high fever, abdominal pain, headaches and nausea. Perhaps the most concerning news is that pregnant women infected with Lyseria could perhaps have a stillbirth or miscarriage.
Portland Shellfish Co distributed the affected products nationwide, therefore the recall is massive, if you are concerned check out this link, here you can find a full list of affected seafood.
Just to give you a rough idea, all of the affected products were shipped between May 12th 2010 and June 8th 2010, check out the link above for a complete breakdown.
If you have any concerns you should contact the company on 207-699-5505, if it turns out that your product is affected, return it and you will get a full refund.
