Portal Smart Speaker announced by Facebook

Facebook has just announced the Portal and the Portal+ Smart Speakers, which aim to deliver an enhanced experience when video chatting in the home.

It combines Facebook Messenger Video chats, along with Amazon Alexa voice assistant and Face Detection so that the camera moves along with your face when you are moving in and out of the video.

The Portal will have a 10-inch 720p display and will cost $199 while the Portal+ has a whopping 15-inch 1080p display and cost $399 – both will start shipping in November.

The idea of a smart webcam that tracks your face and picks up audio at the same time might be somewhat worrying to consumers initially, so Facebook has included a camera cover as well as an instant disable button that switches off audio and the camera at any time.
