Porsche 918 Spyder vs. McLaren P1 performance quarrel

It’s been a good year for the Frankfurt Motor Show because we got to see some fantastic vehicles, one of which was the final production version of the Porsche 918 Spyder. Having already seen what the vehicle can do and how well it performs in terms of acceleration compared to the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari.

The new hybrid Porsche has been flexing its muscles at the Nürburgring, and it seems as if this has triggered a Porsche 918 Spyder vs. McLaren P1 performance quarrel because while the Spyder has a lap time of 6:57, which is the fastest street-legal production car to lap the circuit, the P1 is said to be able to do this in a much faster time.

This has now laid down the gauntlet because the driver who clocked up the impressive Nürburgring time in the 918 Spyder says he can go even faster. However, after watching some of the video footage below we are not sure. We say this because in some corners he is right on the edge and close to losing control, although on others he did not seem to hit the apexes as good as he could have.

The 918 did have a slight advantage though because the driver was Marc Lieb, who is a four-time winner of the Nürburgring 24-hour race, so he should know every inch of the track.

So what if the Mclaren P1 is able to beat the new Nürburgring lap-record, then we bet it will not be too long before Lieb gets his racing overalls out and has another go at the record? Just for the record, we’re told the McLaren P1 believes a time of 6.33 is achievable.
