With VW not having to scale back as much as we assumed because of the diesel engine crisis, seeing as though there are not as many affected vehicles as first thought, it is nice to see the likes of Porsche pushing ahead with new models.
The new models in question are the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman, which will be released as 2016 models. As for the price, we do not have specific details as of yet, although we can tell you that the roadster will have a higher price level than the Coupé, so a lot like the 911 models in that respect.
Porsche has decided on the 718 name to celebrate the sports cars from way back in 1957, and so will be two-door mid-engine models. Both the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will share many features, not only on the exterior, but also on the technical side as well.
These models will be released in 2016 and will advance over the years, and while we do not have in-depth Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman details and specifications, we do have a few snippets of information for you.
We have been told that they will both come with the 2-liter flat four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engines, with turbocharges. As for the specifics, we suspect these engines will produce 300 horsepower at least. Although this is just the S models, as the GTS variants are expected to produce around 370 horsepower.
This is as much as we can tell you for now, and so we will need to wait for Porsche to share more information on these upcoming models.
