Pono Player price and review of success

The PonoPlayer, or Pono Player as most people will call it was finally launched on Kickstarter, along with the PonoMusic site and for those of you have yet to look the device up will be very surprised of its success so far. If you thought the Pebble smartwatch was popular in its early stages, then you haven’t seen anything yet.

The Pono Music and its player Kickstarter program went live a couple of days ago now and was asking for $800,000 by April 15, 2014. Well, in just a few days they have reached $2,289,334 from over 7,000 backers, which is an astonishing sum of money in just a few short days.

Should we really be surprised by this, especially when Neil Young has put his name to the service and the device and to help get the word out? Young has been doing a decent amount of marketing, such as appearing on the David Letterman Show back in 2012.

On the program we get to see an early review of Neil Young’s PonoMusic, but at that time no details on the players price.

However, we can now tell you that the 128GB PonoPlayer, which is triangular in shape will cost you $399, which is pretty much the same price as a 64GB iPod touch. We have no details as to when the PonoPlayer release date will be, but unlike most Kickstarter projects, this one will most definitely go ahead seeing as though the target has been reached many times over.
