Pokemon X and Y news teaser with Honedge

If you have been keeping up with development for Pokemon X and Y, you would have instantly recognized a specific resemblance from Paris in France, and the new Kalos region in the game which features a replica of the iconic Eiffel Tower. Developers Game Freak have very reluctant to confirm the similarities with Paris, until now that is with the release of an excellent developer insight from director Junichi Masuda.

More importantly though for you, the same video reveals another brand new Pokemon that will be joining the list of 20 other Pokemon that have already been confirmed for X and Y. The name will be called Honedge, a new creature to be added to the Pokedex and will have an interesting type combination as well – Steel and Ghost.

Game Freak hasn’t disclosed full information about Honedge yet, but has revealed that the creature will be possessed with an ancient soul, which we’re guessing will grant all kinds of magical sword-based attacks. There’s some very brief footage of Honedge in action below, but hopefully we’ll see some abilities in the coming weeks and details on any possible evolutions.

One move that we do know about has already been revealed as Swords Dance, an ability from Honedge that can increase a user’s attack stat, as well as being able to drain energy as well. In terms of unusual-looking Pokemon, Honedge has to be up there as one of the best seen yet.

It looks like Honedge will have some very powerful attacks at its disposal, so we’ll have to wait and see just how difficult the Pokemon is to capture and at what point in the game. After a dry spell of Pokemon X and Y news, it looks like Game Freak are firmly making up for lost time. Let us know who you would like to see in the game next.
