Pokemon X and Y new wild Pokemon with fishing

Pokemon X and Y just got a little bit more exciting, as we can now confirm another brand new feature to the game. After the reveals for sky battles and horde encounters, it now looks like players will be able to obtain wild Pokemon by participating in a spot of fishing as well.

Like most recent Pokemon X and Y reveals, the news was confirmed in the latest episode of weekly Japanese show Pokemon Smash. During a clip which you can see below, you’ll see the player go into the shallow areas of the surrounding coast and whip out a fishing rod to try his luck.

You’ll then see an instant wild Pokemon encounter, with Octillery against a Honedge. The clip also shows the player capturing the creature at the end, and hopefully Game Freak has put in a few rare Pokemon that can only be captured when fishing in certain areas.

If you haven’t seen Froakie in action yet, one of the game’s starter choices, then watch the very beginning of the clip to also see the creature in a battle. It’s fair to say that the watching members of the Pokemon Smash programme are getting a bit excited as to what is going on in the game, so you’ll have to ignore that if you deem it a bit over the top.

We see an Octillery here, but what other creatures can we expect to see when fishing in Pokemon X and Y? Let us know what version of the game you will be picking up on October 12 – a worldwide release this time for everyone remember.
