Pokemon Google Maps April Fools joke for 2014

Every year on April 1st it is like a minefield with the number of April fools pranks, and this year will be no different. It’s not just you and I or loves to fool a few people, as the likes of Google also enjoys getting in on the action as well, which they have done so again.

Last year saw the funny Google Nose prank appear on the search engine results page, and this year we now have the Pokemon Google Maps April Fools joke for 2014. We cannot be certain if this is their main prank, as this is the one that appears on Google’s Asia Pacific Blog, although because it is already April 1st there, there is no reason why we won’t see this on the other search engine pages in countries such as the UK and the U.S.

The prank sees Google setting you a Pokémon Challenge, where you have to use Google Maps in order to locate a host of creatures in order to fill your Pokédex and become the ultimate Google Maps Pokemon Master. You are asked to make certain you have the latest version of Google Maps on your Android and iOS devices.

There is also another Google April Fools prank, and that is playing this Pokemon game on a dual-screen Nexus devcie. However, upon closer inspection it is just two Nexus 5 handsets placed together.

If you find Google’s April Fools day joke funny and would like to know more, then we’d advise you to watch the video below. Is this one of the best pranks from Google yet, or do you think the 2014 effort is a bit lame?
