Play Pokemon X and Y with Pikachu 3DS XL

If you consider yourself to be the ultimate Pokemon fan and are planning to buy the highly anticipated Pokemon X and Y game on the 3DS this October, you may be interested in preparing yourself with a snazzy piece of Pokemon-themed hardware. A Pikachu Nintendo 3DS XL is now available to buy in the US as a limited edition special and is the perfect companion, as we await the release of the game later on this year.

The highly-sought after Pikachu 3DS XL was initially available in Japan only, and then reached buyers in Europe recently. However, now US consumers have their chance to buy the limited edition version as well, as Nintendo has priced the system $199 – the same price as the standard 3DS XL which is great.

A word of warning though for those looking to snap one up, as the official Pokemon website has already said that quantities will be limited. The Pikachu model officially went on sale as of March 24, so you should be able to find it in stores now, at places such as Walmart, GameStop, Toys R Us and Target.

The Pikachu design is very cute indeed and you’ll be pleased to know that a 4GB SD memory card is also bundled with the package, rather than a 2GB card that you would usually get by buying a standard Nintendo 3DS. Just to remind those of you that are not aware, the 3DS XL will come with full backwards compatibility options, allowing you to play Nintendo DS games, as well as old Gameboy and GameBoy Color titles via the Virtual Console.

As for Pokemon X and Y, official news from Nintendo and GameFreak are still incredibly scarce we’re afraid to say. We recently told you about the debunked Pokemon X and Y rumors from the now-fake ‘Mr XY’. Let’s hope that Nintendo will be giving a full preview of the game at E3 2013 in June, as it feels like we have hardly seen anything of the game at the moment.

How much of a Pokemon fan are you – enough to spend $199 on the new Limited Edition Pikachu model or not?
