It is pretty clear that Plants vs. Zombies 2 for iPhone’s iOS has been a major success after downloads almost reached 25 million since launch, although this news has still left some people shocked that Plants vs. Zombies 2 for Android didn’t launch first considering the reach of that platform.
Some analysts will state that evidence shows iOS users spend more money on apps compared to Google Android users, but even if this were true it might not be the main reason PopCap Games chose Apple devices to get a release date first.
In fact, there hasn’t been any confirmation to suggest Android phones and tablets will even see Plants vs. Zombies 2 release, although this very idea just seems a missed opportunity in massive proportions.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 and Android vs. iOS launch potential — the numbers are there for downloads on Apple iPhone, iPod touch and other iDevices. The same cannot be said for Plants vs. Zombies 2 on Android, but this hasn’t stopped thousands of comments landing on Google Plus, Facebook and blogs in regard to this very topic.
Some people just want to play the game on their new Android device like the Samsung Galaxy S4, and this is seen with this comment found on Google Plus “come on, PvZ was amazing. I just want to play the latest version on my new Galaxy S4”.
You will find hundreds of comments on Google Plus alone about it being a mistake not to launch Plants vs. Zombies 2 on Android first. “over 80 percent of mobiles are Android devices, so PvZ2 should have launched on iOS second”, said one commenter.
Another Android user feels that their mobile OS would have had “5 times the downloads as iOS”. While we wouldn’t agree with that comment considering the 25M Plants vs. Zombies 2 downloads on iOS, the upset is understandable and the loss of downloads for not launching on Android by now is shocking.
Do you think Plants vs. Zombies 2 should have launched on Android first? Either way, if both did launch at the same time what platform do you think would have received the most downloads?
