We are going to take a look at the Pioneer AVH-X4500BT media system, and provide you with a short review of the best features that connect with iPhone and Android in the car.
Pioneer’s system features strong smartphone connectivity with voice control, for both platforms and we will start with the iPhone. On the face of it the voice command feature looks quite smooth, allowing you to operate all of the phones features hands free. Simply connect the iPhone to the Pioneer system via Bluetooth and Siri will take commands in the car.
This principle is very similar for Android, voice control is easy to use as demonstrated in the videos below. However when you want to end a call you must tap the red button on the screen, opposed to telling your smartphone assistant to hang up the call for you. This is a little bit of extra functionality that could have been included but it is a minor issue.
Next we will take a look at the advanced sound retriever feature which will upscale your compressed audio files to CD quality. When you have a song playing through the system you can select the level of sound retrieving quality you want to use by tapping the icon on the interface. There are 2 upscale settings to choose from, with navigation extremely simple when using the AVH-X4500BT features.
You can also access a radio feature called AppRadio mode which enables you to use apps from your connected smartphone. These can all be accessed from the apps source file, although it looks like certain models like the iPhone 4 will need to be connected with a cable. Apps that work in the car like radio and navigation can be accessed on the system screen, direct from your device.
Overall the Pioneer AVH-X4500BT appears to be a smart and user friendly media device, allowing you to connect your phone and use its features very easily. The combination of voice control and touch screen work well, with wireless hands free integration and music upscaling providing extra advantages.
The question is whether you consider the system worthy enough to install in your car?
