Pierre Cardin unveils new designer Android tablet: UK price / specs

Whenever you hear the name Pierre Cardin, you are most likely to think of designer clothing and not electronics. However, it now appears that the company has decided to jump onto the tablet PC bandwagon, and has just unveiled a new designer Android tablet for the UK.

As noted by David Gilbert over on the website, the Pierre Cardin PC-7006 tablet is powered by a Samsung Cortex A8 processor with a clock speed of 1GHz, and comes with a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch display with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution. One downside however is the fact that it runs on the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.

The Pierre Cardin PC-7006 tablet only comes with 4GB of internal storage space, but it does have a microSD slot that supports memory cards up to 16GB. It also features 512MB of RAM, a mini USB port (for connecting a keyboard, mouse or 3G dongle) and an HDMI port, which enables users to connect it to their HDTV for watching movies.

It also comes with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera that’s ideal for video chat, 720p HD video playback and Wi-Fi (802.11b/g). Although the device supports 3G, the option is only available if you buy a separate 3G dongle. As noted over on the Pierre Cardin website, the tablet can also be used to read eBooks in formats such as PDF, CHM, TXT, PDB, UMD and HTML.

Being an Android-based tablet, users will of course have access to the Android Market. Owners of the Pierre Cardin PC-7006 tablet — which comes with a Lithium 4400mAh battery – will also have access to other software such as Gmail, Skype, Google Maps, Multimedia Player, weather, clock, calculator, voice search and Flash 10.1 viewer.

The 7-inch tablet measures in at 195 x 123 x 14mm and weighs 520g, which is quite a lot compared to other 7-inch tablets on the market such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab (380g) and the BlackBerry Playbook (425g). The PC-7006 tablet ships with a Pierre Cardin protective case, a USB cable, AC power adaptor and OTG cable and earphones, which comes packed in a gift box.

As for the price and availability, the PC-7006 is available to purchase now from the Pierre Cardin website for £275. Do you think the Pierre Cardin PC-7006 tablet will be successful?
