While we see lots of 3D TV sets being launched we haven’t seen much in the way of 3D projectors being released. The 3D experience has yet to be fully embraced by most consumers with many seeing it as a short term gimmick. But that doesn’t stop manufacturers bringing out new tech as the Panasonic PT-AT5000E full HD 3D LCD projector is revealed.
It’s the world’s first full HD 3D LCD projector available and according to What-HiFi Sound and Vision will be in stores from September. The design of the actual body of the projector has now got a more curved look which makes it more pleasing to the eye, but inside the unit is full of upgraded technology.
The new 200w red rich lamp promises to deliver a more dynamic, yet more colorful picture experience. The brightness is claimed to be 2000 lumens with a contrast ratio of 300,000:1, and the life of the lamp should be extended with improved internal cooling. This should achieve 4000 hours of normal viewing which is around double of older models.
The new 480Hz Panel Drive Technology is thought to deliver a smooth and comfortable 3D experience as well as eliminating crosstalk. This has been a priority with the company when developing the unit with Panasonic spending a lot of time on it.
The unit will make use of Panasonic’s existing active-shutter 3D glasses which are also used for the company’s 3D TVs. They have an infrared sensor built-in to one side of the lens. The company claims that the 3D transmitter will work at a distance of up to 6 meters, but if that is not enough an external transmitter will also be available to increase the range.
The projector has 2D to 3D conversion and Viera Link inside, as well as three HDMI sockets. Panasonic debuted the projector at its Hollywood Laboratory in Los Angeles that has been part of 3D Blu-ray standards. Engineers at the laboratory have had a big part to play with development of the projector.
The Panasonic projector will cost $3,499 in the US, while in Europe it will cost 3199 Euros no UK pricing has been revealed at present. It remains to be seen how consumers will take to the unit considering the price, but larger venues and establishments who show 3D content may be interested.
