Oxford English Dictionary: Social Media, Tweetup & Interweb Included

Words such as ‘interweb,’ ‘social media,’ ‘defriend,’ ‘tweetup,’ ‘microblogging,’ and ‘netbook’ have been added to the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.

The words are amongst the 2,000 new words to make it into the OED.

Interweb is another way to say “internet,” and has been added 20 or so years after it first appeared.

Social media is a term used to describe news relating to social networking blogs and websites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter among others.

Defriend is another surprise edition, and is a term used when you remove a contact or friend from one of your profiles on social networking websites.
