OS X 10.10 precedence over iOS 8 at WWDC 2014

We have already offered a few predictions as to what we could expect to see at WWDC 2014, one of which we know will be iOS 8. We had assumed that this latest version would be a big deal because it is the first time Jony Ive has been at the helm of a new version of iOS from the start, but it might not be as straight forward as that.

There is a report that suggests that Mac OS X 10.10 could take precedence over iOS 8, and as such it is believed that some of the iOS 8 team have been drafted across to work on OS X 10.10 Syrah, which is one of its codenamed, which is a role reversal of last year.

If this is true, then OS X 10.10 could have a larger presence at WWDC this year, and could in fact be very similar to how iOS 7 looks, which is flat and simplified.

There are two holes in this rumor, the first is that Apple has already said the next version of its Mac OS X will not resemble iOS 7, and also the fact that iOS 7 is far from flat.

OS X 10.10 precedence over iOS 8

Let’s say that 9to5 Mac sources are correct, they would also have us believe that all the new iOS 8 features that we had been expecting won’t be seen at WWDC and released in September. It has been suggested that we will have to wait until the iOS 8.1 update instead.

Some of the updates for the next version of the iPhone and iPad OS is said to come with a new app called Healthbook. We have reason to believe that this would work in conjunction with the iWatch, and if its release is a little delayed, then there wouldn’t be any reason to push the release of Healthbook until all the pieces are in place.

Take from this what you will, but we just cannot see Apple pushing iOS 8 to one side just to get the Mac OS X 10.10 Syrah download ready in time seeing as though the iPhone and iPad sell far more units and so should take precedence.
