With Apple’s media event now only hours away, the hype surrounding the iPad 2 is hitting fever pitch. There’s been quite a lot of speculation about the much-anticipated device, including what features it will and won’t have and its possible weight and screen size.
However, while issues such as the screen size/resolution and what processor it will have are important, Stephen Baker from npdgroupblog.com claims that the most important factors to look at in regards to the long-term success of any tablet PC is both distribution and pricing.
As Stephen notes, it would be nice to see Apple expand its distribution focus to include more business-orientated channels such as DMRs and office stores (Insight and PC Connection for example). Even the consumer focus could do with expanding.
Apple could even try testing more alternative distribution opportunities such as home and department stores. While distribution of the iPad 2 will be interesting, the pricing of the device is critical. With so many tablet PCs becoming available these days, there will no doubt be a fight for shelf space.
This of course can lead to a price war, with tablet PC manufacturers all trying to win customers. With that factor in mind, it will be rather interesting to see what price the new iPad comes in at. What price do you think the Apple iPad 2 will be upon launch?
