Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 smartphone set for Q4 2011 release

Remember back in February we told you how Nokia were axing Symbian in favor in of Windows Phone 7, well a recent Nokia press release has revealed more information about this and hinted about a possible release date.

Sadly we do not have any excited details regarding a particular smartphone, however an extract from the press release clearly states that they are confident that a smartphone running WP7 will ship in Q4 2011. The exact statement reads “Nokia remains pleased with its progress on its Windows Phone strategy, and has increased confidence that the first Nokia product with Windows Phone will ship in the fourth quarter 2011”.

We presume that this means that concepts have been created and software developers are already working hard to optimize Microsoft’s mobile OS to suit Nokia devices, we would love to see a similar form-factor to the Nokia N8 with upgraded internals and no sign of Symbian^3, would you?

The press release can be read in full over at Engadget, it does state that Symbian is still being developed and we also get the impression that Nokia has noticed that their release cycle is too slow.

Hopefully we will hear more about Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 smartphone soon, when we do we will keep you posted.

Do you have high-hopes for Nokia’s first-ever WP7 smartphone?
