Nokia N1 vs. Nexus 9 vs. iPad mini 3 comparison

Over the years the likes of Samsung has been done for copying Apple, and also a bunch of Chinese smartphone and tablet makers have, although more blatantly. However, we were more shocked than surprised when Nokia unveiled its N1 tablet, which to many people within the industry believe it to be a dead-ringer to the iPad mini 3.

The Nokia N1 is very different to many of its other devices because this comes with a more premium design, and so is targeting the Nexus 9 and the third-generation iPad mini. We just worry that having their eyes so focused on trying to take on Apple in its own backyard they have made the mistake of tunnel vision because it not only looks like Apple’s smaller tablet, but also the iPhone 6 as well.

Having said that, because these two devices have not been on the market for long, and with products like the N1 taking months upon months to go from the design stage to mock-up and to final production, there is no way Nokia would have known what Apple were up to, and so rumors they are copying Apple could not be further from the truth. Having said that, they could have looked at the older versions of Apple’s iPhone and iPad and just tried to make improvements to its design and also offering their own design tweaks.

Nokia N1 vs. Nexus 9

How the three compare — With the Nokia N1 aiming to take a piece of the pie from the Nexus 9 and the iPad mini 3, we thought it only fair to look at how they compare in terms of their specs and features, and this comparison will be a pretty close one.

We will be going over the specifications in the order as we have listed the devices above. So let’s look at the displays first, and we have 7.9 inches with an IPS display and 1536 x 2048 pixels compared to 8.9 inches and 2048 x 1536 resolution and finally 7.9-inch and 2048-by-1536, and so the two latter tablets has the former beat.

Processor – Here we have a Quad-core 2.3 GHz Intel Atom Z3580 compared to a Dual-core 2.3 GHz Denver Nvidia Tegra K1 chip and finally a Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone ARM v8-based CPU. Ok, so on paper the mini 3 looks to be the slowest of the bunch, but Apple is clever in how it needs far less processor power and system memory in order to function as fast as it does.

System memory and storage – The N1 has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage compared to 2GB and 16 and 32GB. However, the mini 3 only has 1GB of RAM but 16GB, 64GB and 128GB of storage, although it does not have the benefit of external storage like the other 2.

Camera – The main camera on the rear are identical on the first two tablets, so 8-megapixel, 3264 x 2448 pixels and autofocus compared to 5 MP, 2592 Ñ… 1944 pixels and autofocus for Apple’s smaller tablet. As for the front-facing camera we have 5-megapixel, 1.5-megapixel and 1.2-megapixel.

It is tough to say which is the better tablet out of the three because they are all on different platforms, although there are more Nokia N1 vs. Nexus 9 and Nokia N1 iPad mini 3 differences to check out. Going by what you have seen so far, how would you say the N1 will do once released?
