No Phone Zone Day 2010

Today is “No Phone Zone Day” and a number of companies have joined Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Studios campaign to reduce distractions while driving. It is no secret that one of the main causes of accidents on the road is driving while talking on their cell phones.

Chevrolet is just one of those companies lending their support for the campaign, which they promoted while on the “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. “No Phone Zone” will honor those who have lost their lives due to drivers; they also aim to educate drivers and public on this major issue.

Oprah’s No Phone Zone” pledge for the “No Phone Zone Day” are as follows:

  • Not text or use the phone while driving, and pull over to a secure location if they need to make a call
  • Not text while driving, and use only hands-free calling
  • Not text while driving

GM CEO Ed Whitacre said that the automaker will encourage its 77,000 workers to take the “No Phone Zone Day” pledge, which you can learn more about at

It certainly is great to see a big carmaker like General Motors – who recently paid back their loans – become involved in a high profile topic such as this. There seems to be a number of drivers who do not care about the dangers of talking on a cell phone while driving, we just hope that something good comes from this event.
