Nissan Leaf-based EV Sportscar: Following Toyota / Lexus

The Nissan Leaf is not even available to buy yet, and already the automaker is thinking of building a sports version. The reason behind the Leaf-based EV sportscar is because how popular public interest has been in the upcoming electric vehicle.

Sam Abuelsamid from Autoblog learned of this latest news from Inside Line, and it seems that they were not shocked with this latest news — Nissan following the route taken by Toyota and Lexus was considered the only logical next step with these next generation hybrid vehicles.

There are a number of questions that will need to be answered even before Nissan can go any further with the sporty version of the Nissan Leaf. The most important is knowing which platform it will use, with two of the big German automakers Mercedes and Audi already working on their own versions.

Inside Line believes that the only logical step for Nissan to take is with an electric version of the 370Z — this would certainly be a worthy advisory for the two German versions. However, there are pros and cons to this idea, weight is a plus, but lack of space has to be a negative.

It is for this reason that Nissan could consider a completely new platform; this looks to be the best possible option for them.
