Nintendo NX news with VR specs upgrade, but delay

There are some potentially big Nintendo NX news to share this week, with reports that Nintendo’s highly anticipated console production may be delayed until 2017.

This is due to claims that Nintendo now wants to incorporate VR features into their console which will see it match those offered with the PS4 ‘Neo’ and the recently rumored Xbox One ‘Scorpio’ console.

Nothing is official yet of course, but this article published by Digitimes is very interesting and it makes you wonder if Nintendo are now weary of repeating past mistakes when the Wii U ultimately fell behind the PS4 and Xbox One in sales and popularity among users.

Production on the Nintendo NX was reportedly due to start towards the end of 2016, but if Nintendo are delaying this until 2017 to upgrade the system with VR support – does this mean a release date for when you can buy the console won’t be possibly until the end of 2017?

If so, that means a very long wait for customers and it could be too long to wait if Microsoft and Sony are already selling new systems with 4K support by the end of 2016.

E3 2016 should hold the answers with regards to Sony and Microsoft plans, but we understand that Nintendo won’t be using E3 2016 either to showcase the NX just yet.

What are your thoughts on this – would you support Nintendo if they wanted to take longer to bring the console out in order to ensure it has VR to compete with Sony and Microsoft?
