Nikon to launch J1 and V1 mirrorless cameras Wednesday

Nikon have long been regarded as one of the best camera manufacturers out there, and are often the favorite choice used by professionals. Today we can tell you that Nikon looks set to launch J1 and V1 mirrorless cameras on Wednesday.

The company has recently put up a page that has a countdown that ends tomorrow, and Electronista are reporting it is likely for their mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. Nikon doesn’t normally have such a big fanfare launch for its DSLRs or compacts, this furthers the belief it is for the new platform.

So far the cameras are only known as the J1 and V1, and are thought to have 10.1-megapixel CCD sensors that have 2.7X crop factor. The new shooters are likely to be slightly bigger than regular compact cameras.

Both of the cameras will not feature a hot shoe, and the entry level J1 will have a built in flash. The V1 meanwhile will have an electronic viewfinder in place of the flash, and both the new units are set to provide 1080p30 video and special modes. This will allow users to capture movies from stills and stills from movies.

It is thought that Nikon will offer four different lenses for the new cameras, ranging from a telephoto to a wide angle offering. Currently the prices are not known but should become clearer when they are announced. Nikon has responded to other mirrorless interchangeable cameras that has taken some market share from Nikon and Canon in certain regions.

The cameras are not often a less expensive alternative, but the smaller size and simpler designs are favored by new comers and professionals alike. Are you interested the new cameras that Nikon could be about to reveal?
