As soon as Google announced its latest version of the Android operating system and showcased the new features it brings, many fans of the platform started to look forward to the software update hitting their handsets. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was launched and was the first device to have the new OS, and recently the update began being pushed out to the older Nexus S. But now we have some bad news for owners of the Nexus S as the Android 4.0 updates come to a grinding halt.
Yesterday the rollout for the Nexus S was suspended, and according to Electronista Google has said it was holding back the Android update. The reason given for the delay was so the company could “monitor feedback”, after reports have come in from users reporting unusually high battery drain.
This is believed to have been caused by a higher use of the handsets processor, and wasn’t enough to originally stop updates around the world. Now the software update will not return until Google is satisfied there is not an issue with the operating system upgrade.
Owners of the Galaxy Nexus have been taking to forums and complaining of similar battery drain problems, and is thought to be down to the kernel artificially keeping the handset awake even if the screen is off. This would obviously cause the battery to drain quicker than usual.
Currently Google hasn’t commented on the Galaxy Nexus issue, but it has yet to push out the Android 4.0.3 to the smartphone. Have you experienced any issues with your Nexus S since the Android update?
