Nexus One joins new iPhone 4 with 720p HD video

In an effort to keep up with the iPhone 4 someone one has managed to hack the Nexus One and upgrade it to 720p HD video. It certainly shows that if you want something a little extra on your smartphone, then rooting is the only way to go — not sure if Apple and Google see it that way.

Vladislav Savov from Engadget tells us that xda-developers were the ones behind this latest hack and informed us that the download is now available. We know that you do not want to take the chance, but it is hard to resist 720p HD video recording.

For those of you who are considering the hack, then you will need to have CyanogenMod version 5.0.8test3. Just think that you will be able to have the latest smartphone technology on a handset that is now more than five months old — that and the fact that it runs on Google Android 2.2 Froyo.

Engadget also informs us that the guys over at xda-developers are working on a way to improve the audio quality. Watch the video below to see the Nexus One with HD video recording in action.
