Nexus 8 2014 release still alive, Nexus 10 MIA

Those of you who are expecting to see new hardware at Google I/O 2014 would have been disappointed. The infamous Nexus 10 2014 model is still nowhere to be seen, but it looks like Google may still have plans to release their Nexus 8 2014 tablet at least.

The Nexus 7 2013 model is still a great tablet at a great price, but consumers are starting to wonder what is happening behind the scenes with no signs of a new tablet release this year, as of yet.

Apple and Samsung are showing no signs of slowing down with their own iPad and Galaxy Tab productions respectively, but Google on the other hand have been playing the silent card for a year now with little fanfare.

This week, we have seen some promising evidence though that the Nexus 8 is still coming. Take a look at the image above which shows information obtained from an Indian import-export database courtesy of GSMInsider.

It lists the Nexus 8 as a prototype model having entered India from the United States and also reveals a potential Nexus 8 price point of $275 in a rough conversion.

Unfortunately, we don’t see key details such as specs but this is good enough for us if it’s a confirmation that the tablet is on the way at some point this year after a no-show at Google I/O 2014.

There is still the possibility that the tablet listed on this database could well turn out to be the rumored and highly anticipated HTC Volantis tablet. Again though, more details are needed before we can start to get excited.

What are your thoughts on a new Nexus 8 – are you willing to buy this ahead of a Nexus 10 which appears to be missing in action completely?
