Nexus 7 sequel, price vs. specs for 2nd-gen

Following the success of the Nexus 7 tablet it seems some people are looking at how a sequel could improve on the current generation, which we previously heard could come with a cheaper price. Today we wanted to recap on some of the rumors about a Nexus 7 sequel from the last couple of months, and also look at user preference towards a better price point compared to improved specs for the 2nd-gen Nexus 7.

There’s no denying how popular the Nexus 7 tablet is, which is surprising because these smaller tablets were never embraced a couple of years back, but it does show that there is now a healthy market for them. One of the reasons this could be is because the Nexus 7 price is more attractive when compared to larger tablets, which is why we’re not shocked that there have been one or two rumors suggesting that a Nexus 7 sequel could be on the cards.

It’s been suggested that a 2nd-gen Nexus 7 could be an entry-level model, which would mean it could have a cheaper price tag, and while this does sound like an interesting idea, we have to wonder if consumers would rather pay less but sacrifice some of those specs at the same time? Firstly we’d just like to say that Asus has denied the rumor of a cheaper Nexus 7 tablet, but surely they will not dismiss such an idea because there is increased competition from rivals?

What improvements need to be made to the current Nexus 7, and is a cheaper price far more important than improved specs on the rumored sequel? A number of changes have already been made to this Asus tablet thanks to an Android update, but this cannot help some less than impressive features. One subject that keeps coming up is the fact that there is no rear-facing camera, which is so important on such a small tablet because people carry the likes of the Nexus 7 around with them far more than they would the larger Nexus 10. An improved front-facing camera would also be something worth considering, along with a micro-SD card slot and more powerful processor. However, if the original rumor were true then we could very well see certain features being removed instead of added.
