Google has previously changed the smartphone game with their Nexus range of phones, not only for dazzling consumers with top of the range hardware specs, but also at a price point that was affordable for everyone.
With the introduction of the Nexus 6 just hours ago at Google’s event though, the company has somewhat changed the dynamics yet again in a massive way. If you were expecting another $250 off-contract price just like the Nexus 5 you are going to be in for a shock – the Nexus 6 is going to be $650 off-contract.
That is a staggering mark up by anyone’s estimation, although some have seen it coming after wondering when Google’s Nexus generosity would come to an end.
After all the Nexus range is a premium range and in today’s world premium products cost a lot of money. Google seemingly is now heading towards that path, hoping that the power of the Nexus name tag will be sufficient to still convince consumers to cough up.
The Nexus 6 comes with some monster specs as expected, these include a quad-core 2.7Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and a 5.9-inch display – Google’s biggest ever Nexus phone.

Is it really worth the upgrade though? Nexus 5 owners may not see enough reasons to put away their phone which is still excellent by today’s market standards.
Combine that with the fact that the Nexus 5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update has already been confirmed, so paying $650 for an upgrade may be a tough pill to swallow.
