Nexus 5 vs. iPhone 5S for speediness

The Nexus 5 vs. iPhone 5S would make a fair test considering both smartphones only just launched, so the specs should be on a level playing field for these high-end phones. For some people speed is everything and they have come to hate waiting, and this is why we want to feature a speed test video that reviews the speediness of the Android and iOS devices.

In this Apple iPhone 5S vs. Google Nexus 5 speed test video you will see both smartphones compared side-by-side and with some minor details about the specs.

The video creator explains that both the Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S are very close in terms of speed, so they changed things a little by putting both handsets through a “virtual obstacle course”. You then get to watch to see what phone completes that course in the fastest possible time.

On YouTube you can see the almost 4 minute video has over 1,300 likes compared to just over 150 dislikes, so it seems the majority of 27,000 viewers have enjoyed this speed test so far. You can see the video hands-on below this article.

How important is smartphone speed to you? Who is your winner from Nexus 5 vs. iPhone 5S?

Other than the slightly slower cold boot-up (which is not done often when using a cell phone) the iPhone was noticeably faster. The iPhone 5S ended 17 seconds before the Nexus. If you negate the boot-up, the iPhone 5S was more than 20 seconds faster! Where the speed really showed up was in the speed and smoothness of the 3D animation on the iPhone 5S, while it was jerky and missed frames on the Nexus (ironically running Google Earth ;-)) The topper is that all of the apps that were run on the iPhone 5S were 32-bit. CNET recently reported… Read more »

That was a really great test. You might do some “multi-tasking” in the future to see how well the iPhone and Android platforms do with moving things back into memory, but all and all. That was a good way to show one aspect of phone speed.

The headline should of been iphone 5s vs the half priced nexus 5 speed test.

Well it’s a good thing Google is already addressing this with ART (Android Runtime) which is suppose to replace Dalvik very soon and address exactly the issues of faster app opening, better battery life and an all round smoother performance from Android. Matter fact ART is already in Android 4.4 KitKat but you must manually switch over from Dalvik to ART and from what everybody is saying who has it’s a overall better and faster experience and it’s still in beta so good things to come.

Exactly Nexus 5 doesn’t matter in reality. Note 3 vs Iphone 5s would be a better test. I definitely like this test format.

Good comparison, however I’ve always considered the nexus line of devices to be “mid range” devices. I would be interested in seeing the results of this test between an Iphone 5S and a Samsung Galaxy note 3 (also released very close together)
