Nexus 5 prototype whispers reignites hype

If we were to believe the latest rumors regarding the highly sought after Nexus 5 smartphone, Nexus 4 manufacturers LG are thought to be uninterested in staying on to build a successor for Google. However, new whispers have emerged recently, suggesting that LG could still be making the Nexus 5 and even have a secret prototype device ready and waiting in their labs.

With Samsung planning more domination with the Galaxy Note 3 towards the end of 2013 and Apple introducing the next iPhone to the world as well, it would make sense for Google to follow up with another Nexus device to offer another alternative to consumers. Just the very mention of Nexus would make consumers thirsty for more and it was somewhat strange to hear rumors on how LG apparently wasn’t planning to make a Nexus 5.

With that in mind, we welcome fresh details that suggest that this isn’t entirely the case. A Korean website, as translated by UnwiredView reveals that LG already has a Nexus 5 prototype in their possession. Even more interesting, is that Google CEO Larry Page has allegedly already seen the device following a recent trip to the country.

Some consumers may be wishing for a different manufacturer to build the Nexus 5, such as HTC, Sony or Motorola as we discussed in a recent article here. At the same time, there shouldn’t really be any complaints if LG are indeed building a successor, given the popularity and success of the Nexus 4.

With so many Nexus 5 concepts floating around, the manufacturer debate is certainly keeping you on your toes. When the device is finally introduced in an official capacity, we would hope that hardware specifications are similar to the amazing specs that are rumored to be coming inside the elusive HTC T6.

A completely new design would be great to see as well, something which really innovates compared to the Galaxy S4, Note 3 and the next iPhone. What is your reaction to reports that LG already has a Nexus 5 prototype in their labs – are you happy that they could be building the new Nexus phone or not?
