Nexus 4 Wireless Charger release & software update confusion

Today in the US you will now be able to get your hands on the Google Nexus Wireless Charger (a.k.a. Orb), but those in other countries will have to wait a while longer. This accessory has been a long time coming, but at least you can now get it today for $59.99, which to many of us seems a little expensive, although it’s a pretty solid charger to go with your LG handset.

We already had a pretty good idea that the Orb was ready to ship on February 12th, so the rumor was not that far out. The image that has appeared on the Google Play Store has added some confusion, as it shows a different battery status screen, which many consumers are now thinking that there is a software update for the Nexus 4. However, an Engadget reader has said that the image being displayed is the app Battery Widget? Reborn! Pro.

Some of our readers have said that they have been experiencing issues when trying to process their order, but we would advise you to be patient and keep trying. It’s no surprise that people are having these issues when you consider how long they have had to wait for this first-party charger.

When we first learned of wireless charging we expected it to be so much better than what it is. Okay, so you don’t need to plug your handset into the base, but you still need to plug the base into an outlet. It’s certainly a good start for charging your smartphone, but when are we finally going to see true wireless charging?
