There have been rumors of a next generation Toyota Supra for a few years now, but it now seems as though rumors of its existence could be made official in the not too distant future. We already spoke of an alliance with Toyota and BMW early last year, and that still seems to be the case, although this is to do with many key elements of its design, but not the engine.
2018 Toyota Supra engine – We are calling this a 2018 model because most rumors suggest that we will see the new Supra unveiled by Toyota in the latter part of 2017, with a release suspected to happen early the year after. We have also learned that Toyota will make use of Lexus and their ability to produce a more superior engine.
It would seem that Toyota loves the idea of using the twin-turbocharged V6 engine that will power the Lexus GS and LS to also supply the power for the next-gen Supra as well.
Let’s just say that this rumor is in fact true for a moment, then the all-new Toyota Supra engine performance specs will be very interesting, as it will offer around 400 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. As of yet we are unable to supply any sort of other figures, but we do know that its 0 to 60 miles per hour time will be impressive, especially as we know with Toyota working with Lexus and BMW will be able to provide a great chassis, body, engine and suspension and brake package – well that’s what we believe anyway.
Having said that, if the V6 was used, then it will be a huge risk seeing as though it will need to be tuned for performance and the ability to save on fuel to meet ever demanding fuel economy and emissions regulations.
