Next generation Magic Mouse release speculated

Apple has several products that are in need of an update, and while we know the iPod touch and Mac mini are the two obvious ones, what about the Magic Mouse? This device is almost five years old and would seem to be on borrowed time seeing as though the Mighty Mouse was replaced with Magic after just four years.

While it is not certain, there is a possibility that Apple could be working on the next generation Magic Mouse, or whatever its successor will be called. A recent report shows that a new patent filing was filed by Apple for a Force Sensing Mouse, which means that you will be able to apply different pressures to achieve different results, along with there being vibration to help offer a better user experience.

According to the patent the design of the Magic Mouse successor would be similar to that of the current model, with just some of the internals being changed about a little. The major difference is the introduction of a strain gauge that is connected to a cantilever arm or beam.

Why the need for a haptic system? The patent filing shows that a light press of the mouse would result in a selection of an asset, while a harder press would execute a command, such as opening a folder or even an app. You will know what different forces you are applying because you will feel a different response in the amount of force feedback.

Could you see such a system being used, and if not then what would you like to see in terms of a Magic Mouse replacement?
