Next generation Jeep Wrangler needs diesel not hybrid

There has been a great deal of debate in regard to the Next generation Jeep Wrangler and what sort of power unit it needs. In the U.S. there is only the gasoline version, although it would seem that the company looks set to offer a gas-electric powertrain option for its 2017 model.

We cannot deny how popular this model still is and so Jeep is looking for ways to increase its fuel economy, while also trying to maintain its feel and torque. It’s not going to take a lot of work to improve its economy because it currently gets around 18 MPG combined.

However, a hybrid system will likely put a huge price tag on the model and could also see a few compromises being made in order to keep weight down. Having electric motors on board will add to the weight and in turn could cause issues with handling etc.

Diesel Jeep Wrangler for the USA — Current owners have said they would welcome a 4-cylinder diesel powertrain with a 6-speed manual transmission because it would then become a decent daily driver, and then a fun AWD off-roader for the weekend.

Which would you prefer a 2017 Jeep Wrangler with a hybrid system or diesel?
