New Vehicle Safety Recall tool for used car buyers

Motor Codes and the SMMT have got together to create a new Vehicle Safety Recall tool for used car buyers in the UK to check to see if a model has been included in a recall before buying the vehicle. This will become an invaluable tool in time, as many people have gone ahead and purchased a car, only to find there is an ongoing issue that needs to be rectified.

The Vehicle Safety Recall tool does not cover all car brands, only those that have been willing to participate into the new service, so if you have a Mercedes you will not be able to run a search.

VW also recalls models

It’s very easy to search because once you agree to the terms you first have to select the manufacturer of your vehicle, then put in the VIN, and any outstanding recalls will be shown. Another good feature is how the website tells you where your nearest dealer is, along with their contact information.

We know that many carmakers already have their own recall search tools, but it is far better to have one that consolidates most of the main manufacturers.

The UK has one of the best records when it comes to car safety, and often has far less recalls. However, with this tool, it is the hope that there will be an increase in the number of vehicles being repaired when there is a recall them. This is because there is a high number of vehicles in the US having a recall on them, yet many owners have not got them repaired, either because of laziness, or lack of knowing there was one in the first place.
