New Tesla Model S drag problem from upgrades

We have nothing against body kits for cars, but when a performance company produces one for a family car, we do have a problem. We just cannot understand why anyone would wish to pimp up such a car, and the new Tesla Model S body kit is a fine example of this.

Unplugged Performance has come up with a body kit they feel helps to enhance the Model S, but we have to question this. When looking at the images of the body kit it is clear to see this will add further weight to a car that has been designed to get as much out of the batteries as possible.

New Tesla Model S drag problem — These latest upgrades undoes all the hard work that the Tesla design team has done, first by adding more weight and the second, by increasing drag.

We can see a new rear-diffuser, which as we know helps to create drag beneath the car, thus increasing downforce. However, the rear-end already has plenty of weight to keep the Model S planted to the road, and so the need for a rear-diffuser, is just for looks and not enhancement, unless you call reducing the range of the Model S an improvement?

Another strange thing is how the company is called Unplugged Performance, yet the new Tesla Model S kit does anything but add performance.

The price of the entire kit is around $6,000, which consists of a front spoiler and diffuser, rear spoiler and diffuser, trunk spoiler, side skirts and an entire front fascia system, more details of which can be found on the tuners website.
