New Nexus One and iPhone: 2010 tariffs

The upcoming launch of the Google Nexus One in the UK will have a huge impact on the phone tariffs in 2010, more so for the iPhone. It is no secret that the Apple smartphone has never had the best tariff deals compared to other phones, the threat from the first Google-branded phone could force prices down, we hope.

The Nexus One will only be available to Vodafone in the UK at first, but others are sure to follow. However, with the iPhone now on O2, Vodafone, orange and maybe T-Mobile, the competition will be great for the consumer. Something like this has to push the price of traffics down.

One of the cheapest tariffs from all the carriers is Vodafone; maybe this is why Google chose them first. £30 per month gives you 300 minutes and unlimited texts; this is on a 24-month contract. However, if you do not want to commit to 2 years, then Tesco are offering a 12-month contract for the iPhone. £20 each month will give you £60 worth of calls and texts. However, you will need to pay £320 for the 16GB 3GS or £407 for the 32GB version.

We have yet to see the price of tariffs fall, but the price of the handsets themselves are tumbling fast. However, we are not certain if this will be the case if and when Apple launch their new iPhone 4G this year. There are reports that this could be as early as April.
