We have recently heard that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are currently considering endorsing a new morning-after pill, however this particular pill can be used up to five days after unprotected sexual intercourse.
This pill is sold in other countries under the name ellaOne, however it may be renamed if the FDA endorse it, this is a huge decision for the FDA as approval would no-doubt cause a huge uproar from many U.S. citizens.
The ellaOne birth control pill stops the ovary from releasing an egg, however pro-life groups feel that is another form of abortion, PoliticsDaily’s article also states that it “may also have the effect of making the womb unsuitable for an embryo”.
Recently the president of the American Association of Pro Obstetricians and Gynecologists told the Washington Post “It kills embryos, just like the abortion pill”, however a National Women’s Health Network representative feels that ellaOne is an acceptable form of contraception.
It is thought that the FDA will reach their decision by the end of the week, therefore we will do our very best to keep you up-to-date.
