New Macbook Air: Backlit keyboard and battery life concerns

If you have been keeping a close eye on developments on the rumored new Macbook Air models, you’ll probably be aware of the whispers that these models will once again be equipped with stylish backlit keyboards.

For those of you that are unaware, the first ever models of the Macbook Air featured a backlit keyboard, but for some reason Apple removed this feature in the following version of the Macbook Air, much to the disappointment of consumers.

It goes without saying that the addition of a backlit keyboard adds to the stylish factor of what already is a very sexy laptop, but if Apple do decide to bring it back for new Macbook Air models, one has to wonder what impact it will have on battery life – as one of the main selling points of Macbook Air models are its superior battery life compared to other laptops running Windows.

We understand that Apple may include an option to turn the backlit keyboard off, but if the feature is available out of the box, it’s more than likely that the majority of consumers are going to use this feature constantly. With that thought in mind, we want to know just how many are prepared to buy a new Macbook Air, given the fact that it may feature reduced battery life to compensate for the backlit keyboard.

How important is the addition of a backlit keyboard to you, in your deciding factor on whether to pick up a new model or not? Is it a feature you badly want regardless of the impact it has on the overall battery life, or would you prefer Apple to release to two new models instead? If they did go down this route, it would give consumers the choice of opting for a new Macbook Air either with a backlit keyboard or without, with the model without a backlit keyboard benefiting from a small battery life increase compared to the one equipped with a backlit keyboard.

Of course, the news isn’t even official yet so Apple may not include a backlit keyboard at all. Personally speaking though, I would love it if Apple gave users the choice of having one or not. The current Macbook Air is a thing of beauty as it is, and having a backlit keyboard would just put the icing on the cake in my opinion – do you agree with us or do you have a different insight?
