New MacBook Air 11.6-inch Expectations: Apple Press Conference

As you know, Apple is to hold an event next Wednesday, which they have called ‘Back to the Mac’ and as you would imagine the speculation has already begun. Some media outlets are hoping that a Verizon iPhone will be mentioned, but that will not be the case. The clue is in the name of the event — but could we see the new 11.6-inch MacBook Air?

Since June, Apple has had three such events, the first was to launch the new iPhone and iOS 4.0; the second was to apologize about the antenna on the aforementioned device, and the third was to unveil the new iPod Touch and Apple TV.

There had been hopes of a MacBook Air announcement building up to all three events, but Apple had not delivered. Let us hope that this is the one where we get the good news, it has been more than a year since the last update — long overdue don’t you think?

If Apple were to launch a new MacBook Air it is not certain if it will cover the current size, Cnet News believes that the vendor will offer a smaller version and will start prices at $1,499. I cannot say for certain how popular a smaller Air would be, working on the current 13.3-inch model can be a struggle at times — an 11.6-inch version would be even worse.

We only have four days to learn what Apple will unveil to the world — I just hope that the wait is worth it.

What are your expectations for the ‘Back to the Mac’ event?
