With news of the New Jersey Nets relocating and changing name, we thought it would be a good idea to show loyal fans some apps available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The New Jersey Nets are a professional basketball team in the NBA that plays in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. The team plays in the Prudential Center in Newark. They will relocate to the borough of Brooklyn in New York City beginning in the 2012-2013 season once the Barclays Center is completed, and will change their name to the Brooklyn Nets.
The franchise was established in 1967 as a founding member of the American Basketball Association. The team was named the New York Americans, and Arthur Brown intended for it to play at the 69th Regiment Armory on Manhattan’s east side, but pressure from the New York Knicks forced the Armory to back out three months before opening day. New Jersey, and changed its team name to the New Jersey Americans, though its franchise name remained the New York Americans. This occasion would not be the last time the Knicks directly altered the franchise’s future.
In an article on usatoday.com by Ann Oldenburg, USA TODAY, Jay-Z announced that he wants to open the under-construction Barclays Center with some music. At his hometown neighborhood of Brooklyn, Jay-Z said he wants to rename the team and since Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov bought the franchise, they toyed with some other names, including the Brooklyn Kings or the Brooklyn Bridges, but decided to keep the Nets nickname when the team moves to New York for the 2012-13 season.
