The 2015 Jeep Wrangler is far from perfect and Chrysler knows this, which is why they are hard at work on a new Jeep Wrangler redesign in the hope of generating renewed interest for the model once again. What we do find interesting is how the car maker is taking a leaf out of Ford’s book with the next-gen F-150.
Chrysler knows that they are playing a dangerous game when it comes to changing the design of the much-loved Jeep Wrangler seeing as though it has such a hardcore following. However, something needs to be done in order to bring it right up to date.
The Wrangler is known for being a small and tough SUV, but its weight is still a cause for concern because of the much tougher restrictions for fuel economy.
So compromises will now have to be made because there is talk that the 2017 Jeep Wrangler could have an aluminum body, which may have an effect on the overall strength. Having said that, we know that Ford has proved its 2015 F-150 is far tougher than we think, and that is all-aluminum.
It’s not just a lighter body that could allow the 2017 Wrangler to be more fuel-efficient, as it has also been reported that there could be more gears in the transmission, or even a more fragile engine because the one used at the moment is considered a bit on the large side for what they need to do.
Expected 2017 Jeep Wrangler transmission and engine — Gears could go from five to eight-speed and it could go for something much smaller than the current V6, 3.6 liter. Chrysler could choose a V4 and smaller capacity, but add a turbo in for good measure, although not certain how well that would do off road.
