New iPhone 4: 600,000 pre-ordered in one day

Yesterday was the start of pre-ordering for Apple’s new iPhone 4, and it started with the problems we reported as the Apple Store kept crashing. We had numerous reports of people having trouble ordering the new device.

Roland Hutchinson from is reporting that Apple has announced that it received over 600,000 pre-orders for the new iPhone yesterday. This made it the biggest amount of pre-orders Apple have taken in one day. We reported earlier that both Apple and AT&T have since run out of stock of the iPhone 4.

The press release reads as follows; “Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions.”

“Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.”

Apple must be delighted with the amount of orders taken but should have we expected anything else?
